Cadbury launches ‘Tooth-Building’ Gum!
Dr. Smile 3 June, 2008
(6) Comment Cadbury has hit the US market with a gum that includes an ingredient it claims will help rebuild tooth enamel.
Cadbury Adams, the confectionery giant’s US arm, has unveiled Trident Xtra Care.
The new gum includes Recaldent, a form of calcium that ‘increases tooth remineralisation’ and is derived from milk, the company said.
Cadbury, which has the exclusive US rights to the Recaldent ingredient, said Trident Xtra Care was a ‘significant advance’ for chewing gum in the US.
‘Recaldent is a powerful ingredient that actually replenishes calcium and phosphate to remineralise and protect teeth by filling in the tiny crevices where cavities can form,’ said Dr Doris Tancredi, vice president, regulatory and emerging science, Cadbury Schweppes Americas Confectionary.
‘The result is that teeth become stronger and less vulnerable to future damage.’
Trident Xtra Care is available in two flavours – peppermint and cool mint.

Medical Art and Animation
Dr. Smile 24 April, 2008
(7) Comment Medical visualization is a universal term that encompasses everything from Medical illustration to 3D Medical Animation and Imaging. Technology driven Medical Illustrators use their artistic skills to produce some of the finest breath taking visualizations. The profession is far more challenging, they just don’t draw detailed anatomical illustrations but translate, visualize, and convey complex scientific information in order to educate anyone from doctors to the general public. If you have ever opened a science textbook, watched a pharma ad, heard of Gray’s Anatomy, or been to a doctor’s office, then you’ve probably witnessed some form of the medical illustration.
Take a look at some of the exciting and dynamic illustrations i managed to collect all these days. Do leave your feedback and ask me about Biomedical Visualization program, there are very few universities offering this program.

Techno-Medical Student
Dr. Smile 14 April, 2008
(9) Comment I had no work other than wandering around medical blogs today morning until i stumbled upon a Medical student Johnny, who’s an active problogger and a techno geek. Another Malaysian friend on my list currently pursuing his medicine in Russia (must be having a jolly ride in the icy climate).
Well, Johnny started blogging in late ‘06, technology being his fave; here you go, these days i see so many medico’s confirming their technology enthusiasm, is it because of the fast and rapid changing environ or either they are bugged up with the medical standards prevailing around the world, either ways its good to see a medico taking part as a techno geek, since full time technology professionals do not even have the chance of entering medical fraternity; pity you guys.

Hurry… its time for GDC registration
Dr. Smile 9 April, 2008
(1) Comment The legal deadline (30 July 2008) for GDC registration is fast approaching – so dental technicians must act now to ensure they are registered in time.
For dental technicians who have not yet registered, a ‘Registration Surgery’ will be available at the Dental Technology Show (9-10 May).
The GDC will be on hand at the GDC exhibition stand (E20 & E22) to check application forms, as well as offer advice and answer questions on the registration process.
Completed forms and accompanying documents can be submitted by colleagues for those who can’t make it themselves.
Dental nurses and technicians who would like to submit applications at the ‘Registration Surgery’ need to bring certified copies of all the relevant supporting documents, including proof of identity, as original documents will not be accepted on the day.
