Air of Halitosis!
Dr. Teeth 28 February, 2008
(7) Comment If bad breath is in the air and it belongs to you, your digestion system may be trying to tell you something about your general health. Read on to find out what halitosis can mean and how to freshen your breath.
Causes of Halitosis
The gums and the mouth are an extension of the digestive system, and according to traditional Chinese medicine, they represent the condition of the stomach.
Emotions play a role, as well. Excess anger, frustration, and worry can disturb the digestive rhythms, causing food to stagnate and ferment and contributing to bacteria overgrowth and bad breath. Certain foods such as garlic and onion contain volatile oils and sulfur compounds that give off their unpleasant odor.

Michael Jackson’s Neverland on forced SALE!
Dr. Teeth 27 February, 2008
(4) Comment
Michael Jackson’s Neverland Valley Ranch in California will be closed and sold on March 19 unless the pop star pays a balance of nearly $25 million, as reported on FoxNews website.
The “King of Pop” has owned the 2,800-acre (1,133-ha) ranch in the rolling foothills above the California coast since 1988, naming it after the whimsical island where children never grow up in J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan stories.
Jackson, 49, famously outfitted the property with a private zoo and amusement park and festooned it with statues of Peter Pan characters.

Disinfection and Sterilization
Dr. Teeth 25 February, 2008
(5) Comment Sterilization and disinfection are important to prevent the chain of infection in the dental office. The chain of infection is:
- An entrance through which the pathogen may enter the host.
- A susceptible host is one who is not immune or has compromised immunity.
- A sufficient number of pathogens or infection-causing organisms must be present to produce infection. This is called the infectious dose. This varies for different infections or diseases. There must be a reservoir or source that allows the infection agent to survive and multiply (e.g. Blood).

Do you have a retirement plan?
Dr. Teeth 24 February, 2008
(2) Comment According to several published sources, more than 90% of Dental professionals have a less than predictable plan for maintaining our lifestyle and income fully at the age of 65. In a profession that generates our levels of personal income, this is unforgivable. Most of us spend far too much in the narcissistic pursuit of short-term happiness. We often try to bloat our self-esteem by showcasing cash flow in the form of Dental professionalism while forgoing the development of our own net worth.
In our profession, there is adequate income to invest at least 10% of what we make so that we have funds to put to work for us and accumulate wealth. If we can temper our instant gratification urges and make more of our resources work for us, it will pay huge dividends down the road. Similar to building our restoration cases on a solid periodontal and occlusal foundation, we should build solid financial foundations too.

Guide to Prescription Writing
Dr. Teeth 24 February, 2008
(4) Comment 1) Simply because a patient perceives that he or she has not received adequate attention unless a prescription is written is insufficient reason to write one.
2) Obtain an accurate and complete patient history, including whether the patient is taking any drugs prescribed by other doctors or over-the-counter drugs: both can affect the dosage of the drug being prescribed.
3) Use a separate prescription blank for each drug ordered. Avoid using prescription blanks with trade names printed on them. Never presign a prescription blank and always store blank prescription pads in a secure place.
4) Write out numbers rather than using digits so that the prescription cannot be altered in any way.
5) Prescribe sufficient drug at adequate dosing intervals to maintain therapeutic blood level.
6) Review the manufacturer’s date for prescription drugs; changes are made periodically that affect indication for use, dosage or side effects.

Using a Stock Abutment
Dr. Teeth 23 February, 2008
(0) Comment Many Dentists have negative opinions about Stock Abutments.
Here i point out few advantages why one would use a Stock Abutment based on my personal experience:
1) For the ITI system, the fact that there is no hole through the abutment makes it much stronger and even it appears thinner, much more fracture resistant than any 2 piece abutments.
2) There is an economic advantage to Stock Abutments, both in component pricing and also laboratory complexity. They are time efficient and easier for the Dental assistants too.

Handle Dental Phobia easily!
Dr. Teeth 19 February, 2008
(4) Comment The most common reasons that people say are associated with apprehensiveness can vary. Here are some examples with possible solutions:
1. You went to a dentist. He did a filling. It hurt. You never went back. Now you’re very apprehensive. It didn’t work out the last time. What should you do now?
Just because it didn’t go well the last time does not mean it is going to be bad the next time. It can work out well with another dentist. On the other hand, nobody can possibly have a 100% satisfied patient pool. It is not uncommon to experience some degree of discomfort during or after an involved procedure. One unpleasant incident does not mean that the dentist is incompetent. As long as you know your priorities and the dentist is open to your input, feel free to discuss the issue. If you don’t, it will keep on happening no matter how many times you switch your dentist. If you do not inform, the dentist may not even realize what is bothering you. Remember, good communication helps in resolving many problems. Talk about your concerns. You can decide whether to continue there or not based on how the dentist is responding to your concerns. You can sense if you’re comfortable with the outcome.

Brushing Teeth with a Computer Game
Dr. Teeth 12 February, 2008
(3) Comment Scientists have come up with a novel idea to encourage kids to brush their teeth properly.
They’ve created a game with a webcam and basic software similar to a Nintendo Wii.
The ‘Playful Toothbrush’ is the brainchild of scientists at Taiwan University and aims to aid the tiresome task faced by dental professionals and parents everywhere – getting children to brush their teeth effectively.
With the average five year old brushing only a quarter of their teeth, the ‘learning through play’ approach may prove a winner.
LED modules containing three LEDs are mounted onto one end of the toothbrush and a web camera, mounted onto a bathroom mirror, can track this.
The camera uses computer software to track the movements of the toothbrush.
This information is fed as an input into the computer, which displays a game that the scientists have developed.

Dental Laser at Hyderabad
Dr. Teeth 10 February, 2008
(10) Comment Dental Lasers are an exciting and sophisticated innovation in the Dental profession. It is capable of minimizing patient discomfort, enhancing recovery times and improving the efficiency of the Dental office.
Dental Lasers are not common in India because of their high price. The first Dental office to bring Dental Lasers in South India is Ameerpet Dental Hospitals, the latest being Partha Dental both located in Hyderabad.
They have seen tremendous increase in their OP since the Laser setup as more and more patients are opting this as it reduces the need for Anesthetics, lack of needles, drilling, and pain.
Lasers are used to perform various hard and soft tissue procedures, coagulation, bacterial decontamination, Teeth Whitening, etc.
If you are planning to expand or setup a new Dental office, do not forget to include Dental Lasers in your high priority list.
