The Mist -  is more thought-provoking than frightening. Its stubbornly cynical attitude makes it worth watching.

Its 3 in the morning and by the time the film’s credits rolled I was wrecked, a mass of roiling

emotion and depression. The movie sticks with you long after the lights come on; it lingers in your soul like a recurring nightmare or the shadowy vision of an inevitable and terrible future. It’s a typical kinda  horror movie complete with huge insect predators, monsters and plenty of gore, but the questions it raises about religion, paranoia, mob behavior and human nature are the most intriguing aspects of the movie. By the end, one wonders which group is more savage: Us or Them? I can perhaps write the whole story here but i leave it to you to look out the window to see an unnatural mist rolling towards your future.

Medical visualization is a universal term that encompasses everything from Medical illustration to 3D Medical Animation and Imaging. Technology driven Medical Illustrators use their artistic skills to produce some of the finest breath taking visualizations. The profession is far more challenging, they just don’t draw detailed anatomical illustrations but translate, visualize, and convey complex scientific information in order to educate anyone from doctors to the general public. If you have ever opened a science textbook, watched a pharma ad, heard of Gray’s Anatomy, or been to a doctor’s office, then you’ve probably witnessed some form of the medical illustration.

On January 15, 1978, Lisa Levy and Martha Bowman went to bed in the same room in the Chi Omega sorority house at Tallahassee’s Florida State University. No one could have guessed that this was to be their last night alive. In the dark, a man wearing a blue knit cap crept in and struck them with a wooden club until they were dead. Then he fled into the night.
A witness, Nita Neary, saw the man in the house running with a cloth-covered log, so she called the police and they came to investigate. Never had they seen such a brutal attack, and little did they know that these girls were the latest victims of serial killer Ted Bundy, who had left a wake of uncounted female corpses from Washington State to Florida. Generally he went after one at a time, but for some reason he had gone on a rampage that night.
Lisa Levy was raped, strangled, and beaten on the head. Margaret Bowman was strangled with a pair of pantyhose and severely beaten on the head. Neither had struggled. Two other girls in the house had been attacked and less than an hour and a half later, the man assaulted a fifth victim, who survived. Just a few weeks after that, he abducted, raped, and killed a 12-year-old girl.
No fingerprints were found at the crime scene, which meant that the room had been wiped clean. While that kind of precaution was consistent with Bundy’s personality, it was not hard evidence for a conviction. The attacker had taken his weapon with him so that item of evidence was also missing from the crime scene collection. They had a blood type, a few print smudges, and sperm samples, but all proved inconclusive. Yet there was a piece of evidence that was to become a centerpiece during the trial: an odd bite mark on the left buttock of Lisa Levy. She had also been bitten on the breast, but this mark on her buttock was a much better impression. One officer laid a yellow ruler against the abrasion and then stepped back for the photographers. His presence of mind might have made all the difference between conviction and acquittal of the most notorious killer in America to date, because the tissue specimens were lost by the time of the trial.

Once upon a time, patients would simply attend the dental surgery closest to them whenever they needed treatment. These days this happens less and less frequently. Patients demand the highest standard of treatment at reasonable prices and they are more than happy to shop around for it.

The Internet is a research tool, allowing people to find out all sorts of diverse information from the comfort of their home. Every industry is now embracing its potential, and there are many dentists doing the same thing.

Even a very basic website can carry a great deal of important information. Visitors to the website can see at a glance the location of your practice, directions on how to get there (and perhaps a map), opening times and contact details. Most practices allow contact via email as well as by phone, for patient convenience.

Japan has discovered the latest recyclable item – false teeth!

Denture deposit boxes have appeared in the southern Japanese city of Fukuoka in response to a request by the charity, the Japan Society for the Recycling of Dentures.

The JSRD plans to set up hundreds of false teeth collection boxes in cities across Japan to raise funds for UNICEF.

‘People on average get new dentures every three years, because the condition of their teeth changes,’ explained the charity’s founder Isao Miyoshi.

‘Once the new ones are made, dentists usually give the old ones back to the patients.

‘But most people don’t know what to do with them and they end up keeping them in their drawers. That’s really a waste of something useful.’

Scientists are developing the technology to enable teeth to regrow the crystals that make up dentin and enamel, thereby phasing out fillings and drillings completely.

The technology will evenbtually phase out fillings and drillings completely.

The goal – estimated to be at least 10 years away – is to spot tooth decay early enough that they then get the teeth to grow healthy tooth-matter over the bad spots.

The scientists are beginning to find just the right solutions of chemicals to rebuild decayed teeth, rather than merely patching their holes.

‘What we’re hoping to have happen is to catch [decaying teeth] early and remineralise them,’ said Sally Marshall, a professor at the University of California at San Francisco.
